SolutionHow do I delete Temporary Internet Files (Cache & Cookies). ALL popular browsers

Instructions are provided for deleting Temporary Internet Files (Clearing Cache and Cookies) for: Internet Explorer browsers using Windows Control Panel or in Internet Explorer itself.

Instructions are also provided for the removal Temporary Internet Files (Clearing Cache and Cookies) for: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, AOL and Netscape browsers.

NOTE: Some browsers refer to this as Browsing History, Temporary Internet files, Cached memory, etc. They sometimes get renamed as versions change, but they all are at the core the same thing.

 


Internet Explorer - Delete Temporary Internet Files:

Internet Explorer 9


From the Gear Cog / Tools icon in the upper right, Click it and select Safety.
From the Safety menu, click Delete Browsing History...
Deselect Preserve Favorites website data, and select Temporary Internet files and Cookies.
Click Delete.


Internet Explorer 8


From the Safety menu in the upper right, click Delete Browsing History... .
Deselect Preserve Favorites website data, and select Temporary Internet files and Cookies.
Click Delete.


Internet Explorer 7

From the Tools menu in the upper right, select Internet Options.
Under "Browsing history", click Delete... .
To delete your cache, click Delete files... .
To delete your cookies, click Delete cookies... .
Click Close, and then click OK to exit.

Internet Explorer 6

Open Internet Explorer.
Select the Tools menu.
Select Internet Options.
Select the General tab.
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button.
Do not check the clear Offline Content box. Click OK.
Click OK to close the Tools window.

Windows Control Panel - Delete Temporary Internet Files:

Windows XP / Vista / Win7  - IE 8 & 9

Click the Windows Start menu.
Select Control Panel, (or Settings and then Control Panel).
Select Internet Options, (or Network and Internet Connections and then Internet Options).
Under Browsing History, click the Delete button.
Check the boxes for Temporary Internet Files and Cookies ONLY.
Click Delete Button at the bottom.
Allow to process.
To close the window, click OK.
Close control Panel.

Windows Vista - IE 7

Click the Windows Start menu.
Select Control Panel, (or Settings and then Control Panel).
Select Internet Options, (or Network and Internet Connections and then Internet Options).
Under Browsing History, click the Delete button.
In the Delete Browsing History window, click the Delete Files button.
When asked if you are sure you want to delete all temporary Internet files, click Yes.
To close the windows, click Close, then OK
Close control Panel.

Windows XP - IE 6 & 7

Click the Windows Start menu.
Select Control Panel, (or Settings and then Control Panel).
Select Internet Options, (or Network and Internet Connections and then Internet Options).
Select the General tab.
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button.
Do not check the clear Offline Content box. Click OK.
Close the Internet Properties and Control Panel windows.
Close control Panel.


Google Chrome -Clear Browsing Data:

Open Chrome.
Click the Tools menu button upper right. Looks like a wrench.
Select Tools from the drop down.
The Options / Under The Hood page will be displayed.
Under Privacy clcik on the Clear Browsing Data button.
In the Clear Browsing Data dialogue box check the boxes for Empty the Cache and Delete Cookies and Other Site Plug-in Data.
Click the Clear Browsing Data button at the bottom.
Once the it stops close the Under the Hood tab/page.


Firefox (Mozilla) - Clear Cache:

Firefox Newer Versions for Mac - Apple

method 1

Click the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
Click the Advanced icon and click the Network tab.
Click Clear Now under the Cache section.
Click the red circle X in the top left corner to close the Preferences.
Quit Firefox and re-launch the browser.

Find the tool bar above the browser page locate TOOLS same line as the Apple logo top left.
From the drop down select Clear Recent History.
Select the how far back the time range to clear.
Cookies and Cache should be checked others are optional then clcik clear now.

Firefox 4.0 & 5.0  PC

Open Firefox (Mozilla).
Click the Firefox menu button, upper left corner.
Mouse over History
Click on Clear Recent History
In the Clear All History dialogue box check Cookies and Cache ONLY.
Click the Clear Now button.


Firefox 3.0  PC

Open Firefox (Mozilla).
Click the Tools menu.
Click Clear Private Data.
Check Cache. Note that any other checked items will also be cleared, so un-check any that you do not want to clear.
Click the Clear Private Data Now button.

Firefox, older versions

Open Firefox (Mozilla).
Click the Tools menu.
Click Options.
Click Privacy.
Click the Clear button for Cache.




Safari - Clear Cache:

Safari 5.0 +

Click on Safari top left next to the Apple Icon
from the drop down click on Empty Cache

Safari 3.1.2

Open Safari.
Click the Edit menu.
Click Empty Cache....
When asked if you are sure you want to empty the cache, click the Empty button.



Opera - Clear Cache:

Opera 9.5.2

Open Opera.
Click the Tools menu.
Click Delete Private Data.
In the Delete Private Data window, click Detailed Options.
Check Delete Entire Cache. Note that any other checked items will also be cleared, so un-check any that you do not want to clear.
Click Delete.




AOL - Clear Browser Cache:

AOL 9.0

Click Settings.
Select the Index tab, and click Internet [Web] Options.
Under Browsing History, where it says to Delete temporary files, cookies, saved passwords, and web form information, click Delete.
Wait while the files are deleted, then click OK.


AOL 7.0

In Keyword, enter: PREFERENCES. Or, on the Settings menu on the AOL toolbar, click Preferences.
In the Organization section of the Preferences window, click Internet Properties (WWW).
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete Files.
Click OK.




Netscape - Clear Browser Cache:


Open Netscape.
Click the Edit menu.
Click Preferences.
Click Advanced. It expands to show a list of options.
Click Cache.
Click Clear Memory Cache.
Click Clear Disk Cache.
Click OK.


Mobile phones

Mobile Safari for iPhone OS (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad)

To clear cache and cookies:

  1. From the home screen, tap Settings, and then tap Safari.

  2. At the bottom of Safari's settings screen, tap the buttons for Clear Cookies and Clear Cache. To confirm, tap Clear Cookies or Clear Cache again.

To clear history:

  1. From the home screen, tap Safari.

  2. At the bottom of the screen, tap the Bookmarks icon.

  3. In the lower left, tap Clear.

  4. Tap Clear History.

 

Android

To clear cache, cookies, or history:

  1. Start your browser.

  2. Tap Menu, and then tap More.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. Under "Privacy settings", select Clear cache, Clear history, or Clear all cookie data as appropriate, and then tap OK to accept (or Cancel to cancel) the deletion.
